Wildlife inventories ANURANS Conventional anuran (toad and frog) inventories are conducted by listening to the calls of males during the mating period. For many species, this period lasts for a relatively short time in spring and summer. These nocturnal inventories must often be conducted at far-flung, hard-to-reach sites, and require the availability of competent personnel, which quickly becomes a serious constraint when a number of inventories need to be done simultaneously. To overcome this problem, the Envirotel 3000 team has developed an electronic device that considerably increases the quantity and quality of acoustic anuran inventories. Multiple devices can be installed during the day, and turn on automatically at dusk to record anuran mating calls. After a few days, the recordings are recovered for analysis at our offices. This allows our staff to conduct many more inventories, while cutting costs for our clients. When inventories need to be conducted outside of the mating period, we have the equipment and expertise to capture and identify eggs, tadpoles and adult specimens.
