Management and development projects MINE SITES There are a considerable number of former mine sites in Québec, whose entrances pose a threat to the public and need to be secured. Envirotel 3000 has broken new ground in this area by developing ways of closing mine entrances that are safe for humans, while still allowing bats to enter. Our site-specific solutions are also designed to provide ideal bat hibernation conditions. Note that there are eight bat species in Québec. Some live in the province year round: Little Brown Bat (Myotis lucifugus), Northern Long-eared Bat (Myotis septentrionalis), Eastern Small-footed Bat (Myotis leibii), Eastern Pipistrelle (Pipistrellus subflavus), and Big Brown Bat (Eptesicus fuscus), while others migrate south for the winter: Silver-haired Bat (Lasionycteris noctivagans), Hoary Bat (Lasiurus cinereus) and Red Bat (Lasiurus borealis).
